Accurate and timely prediction of long-term outcome is essential to better inform families about the possible implications of an injury on their child’s development. It is also necessary for the identification and implementation of necessary supports as the child transitions from the hospital back into their home, school, and community. The multidisciplinary panel will describe data collected at two large pediatric institutions which aimed to examine the utility of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), time-to-follow commands (TFC), and post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) in the clinical prediction of later outcomes of children with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Results will be discussed to highlight similarities and differences between findings at the two institutions. Recommendations for assessment, data tracking, interdisciplinary medical team collaboration, and education of families across the continuum of recovery (PICU to Inpatient Rehabilitation) will be highlighted along with opportunities to establish standardized data collection in order to facilitate collaboration across sites.
