Short narrative: This symposium will cover secondary health complications following SCI and describe lifestyle approaches to improve long-term health in this population.
Describe the effects of SCI on body composition, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity in individuals with long-standing SCI.
Describe the effects of SCI on muscle biology in individuals with long-standing SCI.
Describe the effects of electrically evoked resistance training with and without androgen supplementation on metabolism, body composition, skeletal muscle fiber type distribution, hypertrophy, and mitochondria function.
Describe the effects of moderate to high intensity functional electrical stimulation induced whole body exercise on body composition in the sub-acute phase (<2 years) after SCI.
Describe the effects of low carbohydrate/high protein diet on metabolism, body composition, and microbiome composition in individuals with SCI and insulin resistance.
