Cristian Luciano is an engineer, inventor and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience integrating engineering and medicine. He is a pioneer in virtual, mixed and augmented reality technology, bringing innovations to surgical simulation and training, presurgical planning, and intraoperative surgical guidance.
He is a research assistant professor in the Department of Bioengineering, and an adjunct research assistant professor in the Departments of Medical Education and Urology at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Engineering and College of Medicine.
He is the director of the Mixed Reality Laboratory, assistant director of the Innovation Medicine (IMED) program, and research and development associate at the Simulation and Integrative Learning Center at the UIC College of Medicine. He is also the director of engineering in the UR*Lab, which is part of the Department of Urology, and an engineering faculty advisor in the ORBITLab, which is part of the Department of Ophthalmology, at the UIC Innovation Center.
Luciano holds a doctoral degree in industrial engineering and operations research and master’s degrees in computer science and in industrial engineering from UIC. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and holds several patents that led to successful commercialization.
