My extensive training in research design and analysis make me ideally suited to co-mentor EMCF awardees and provide guidance regarding research design and analysis. Currently, I am the Associate Research Scientist and Research Manager in Emory University’s Department of Emergency Medicine. In this position, I fill two primary roles: 1) I consult on research design and conduct statistical analyses, and 2) I am an educator who contributes to the research components of medical student and resident education as well as professional development at the faculty level. In my first role, I work closely with medical faculty to develop research ideas, design/plan studies, manage datasets, and analyze data. I have also worked as the statistician on studies funded by a number of external funding organizations including the CDC, the CDC Foundation, the Georgia Trauma Foundation, the Georgia Poison Center, and Pfizer. In my second role, I am also closely involved in medical resident pedagogy as well as professional development for faculty. For our residents, I provide guidance on ACGME-required scholarly activities and deliver didactics related to research design and statistics. For our faculty, I lead the Faculty Scholars Program. This is a ten-month program during which I lead writing sessions as well as didactics on scientific writing, research design, and strategies for developing successful grant applications. At the end of the program, all participating faculty are required to submit a grant application to the funding agency of their choice.
Prior to my work at Emory, I was an instructor and graduate student at Michigan State University. During this time, I taught several sections of introductory statistics as well as research methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at The Georgia Institute of Technology where I received additional training in advanced statistical methods. Overall, I have 10 years of experience teaching research methods and statistics at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels.
I am deeply committed to conducting high quality research in emergency medicine. I am excited by the possibility of leveraging my training and experience to helping our faculty, residents, and fellows develop their projects.
