Steve Zuckerman is a seasoned executive who has led in both the business and non-profit sectors, helping to build organizations to make the world a better place. He is also the husband for 31 years of Debra Meyerson, who was forced from her professorship at Stanford by a severe stroke; Steve was Debra's primary caregiver early in recovery, and is now partnering with her to build Stroke Forward, a nonprofit they co-founded in 2019 to create more resources that will support stroke survivors and their families in the emotional journey of recovery -- more specifically the journey to rebuild their identities and rewarding lives.
Steve is also Managing Director of the California operations for Self-Help, and President of Self-Help Federal Credit Union. Self-Help is a leading non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) founded in 1980. With more than $3 billion in assets, Self-Help has invested more than $8.5 billion in 160,000 families, businesses and non-profits to support growth low income communities and help families break the inter generational cycle of poverty.
Steve's previous work experience includes 14 years with McCown De Leeuw & Co. (MDC), a private investment firm based in Menlo Park, CA., several years in the Boston office of Bain & Company, and independent consulting to non-profit organizations pursuing major new initiatives. He's consistently supported non-profits pursuing economic justice and youth development, currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Tides Network and on the board of Positive Coaching Alliance. He is a graduate of Stanford Business School (MBA) and Yale University, married 31 years to Debra Meyerson, and the proud parent of three adult kids ages 30, 28 and 24.
