Amanda Botticello, PhD, MPH is a Senior Research Scientist in the Center for Outcomes and Assessment Research and the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Research Departments and Director of the Social Determinants of Health and Disability Outcomes Research Laboratory at Kessler Foundation. Dr. Botticello is also has a co-terminus faculty appointment as Associate Research Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). Dr. Botticello trained in social epidemiology and biostatistics in the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles where she received both her doctorate and masters degrees in Public Health. She has over 15 years of experience in conducting projects involving the linking and analysis of hospital, survey and administrative datasets and designing quantitative and qualitative research studies. The substantive focus of her research is advancing the science of the social determinants of health, understanding geographic variation in disability and chronic conditions, and assessing long-term psychosocial outcomes and community integration for people with disabilities. She has been the Principal Investigator on several grants federal (NIH, NIDILRR) and philanthropic (Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, Children’s Specialized Hospital) institutions . Dr. Botticello has been a Co-Investigator on NIDILRR-funded Model Systems grants in Spinal Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury for over 10 years. Her work has involved diverse impairment groups (psychiatric, cognitive, and physical disability), specific medical rehabilitation populations (SCI, TBI, and pediatric), and different aspects of the lifecourse (children, adolescents, and older adults).
