Dr. Novack is a retired Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He practiced neuropsychology at the Spain Rehabilitation Center from 1985-2020. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1985 from Memphis State University. He also has an M.A. degree in Experimental Psychology from Wake Forest University and a B.A. in Psychology from the College of William & Mary. He completed an internship in clinical psychology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Novack is Board Certified in the area of Clinical Neuropsychology and has served as an examiner for the board. Most of his clinical practice involved the assessment and treatment of people with traumatic brain injury. He has published extensively on the topic of traumatic brain injury in professional journals. He has received external funding from the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, and National Institute for Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. He served as Project Director for the UAB TBI Model System program continuously for 20 years. He was also the Project Director for the UAB TBI Clinical Trial Network sponsored by the Center for Medical and Rehabilitation Research. He is a Fellow in the Divisions of Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology of the American Psychological Association, as well as the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He was presented with the James Garrett Early Career Award in 1995 and the Roger Barker Lifetime Achievement Award in Rehabilitation Research in 2015, both sponsored by the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
