Research Fellow
Hospital for Sick Children
Toronto, Ontario
I am currently a Research Fellow in the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Nolen Hicks Stroke Imaging Laboratory for Children (SILC) lab. I obtained my PhD from the University of Toronto in the Institute of Medical Science with a Collaborative Program in Neuroscience. My doctoral work was based on the use of imaging techniques to understand the relationship among the extent of stroke-induced damage to the corticospinal tract, associated changes in brain activity, and motor recovery. Prior to my PhD, I spent 12 years working in clinical research focused on the epidemiology and outcome of pediatric stroke.
My experience includes the use multi-modal brain imaging techniques including functional MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, anatomical imaging, and MEG to determine how the brain reorganizes hand function after stroke in children. Dissertation: “Structural and Functional Correlates of Hand Recovery Following Childhood Stroke”.
Research interests include: CNS plasticity of the immature brain following stroke causing motor impairment. Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying sensorimotor recovery after stroke using multi-modal, non-invasive brain imaging.
