Dr. Amy A. Herrold, Ph.D. completed her doctoral work in Neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago in 2010. As a Post-doctoral Fellow, she transitioned to studying addiction and co-occurring conditions in a health services and clinical neuroscience research environment at Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital (Hines VA). For the past 8 years, Dr. Herrold has focused on co-occurring mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), alcohol use disorder (AUD) and mental health disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She worked with a multidisciplinary and multisite team on a VA Health Services Research & Development Service Directed Project to examine the diagnostic accuracy of mTBI. Dr. Herrold currently has a VA Rehabilitation Research & Development Level II Career Development Award (VA RR&D CDA-II) to study alcohol craving and develop a repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment for veterans with co-occurring AUD, mTBI and PTSD. Dr. Herrold also received the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research Merit Switzer Research Fellowship Award in 2013 to assess safety and immediate efficacy of rTMS for the treatment of co-occurring AUD, mTBI, and PTSD. Dr. Herrold has over 20 peer-reviewed publications and is also a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences.
