As survival improves after catastrophic injury, it is essential that we evaluate how acute interventions effect long term outcomes. This course is focused on burn injury but is designed to demonstrate how this is a model for many catastrophic conditions. Points of discussion will include management of delirium, early mobilization, barriers and successed in community reentry and return to work as well as the role of vocaitonal interventions.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the impact of delirium management on long term cognitive outcomes after burn injury
• Highlight the importance of early mobilization as a means to reduce long term impairments
• Discuss current evidence and gaps in knowledge regarding community re entry after burn injury
• Understand the impacts of burn injury on rates of return to work
• Discuss vocational interventions and programs for burn survivors and how they might be used in broader rehabilitation context
