Born in North Carolina, Sierra Lopez was raised in a "nomadic" family in which her father highlighted the importance of self-motivation and her mother instilled the desire to help others. When she looked ahead at career paths, she knew she wanted to break into an industry that allowed those traits to flourish. She recently graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a B.S. in Bioengineering. Sierra gained valuable research, communication, and critical thinking skills through her course studies, her work with the BioMedical Engineering Society and the California Public Interest Research Group, and her time working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in Dr. Xiaoping Hu's lab. Her senior year, she worked on a Senior Design project in the Pediatric Rehabilitation Technology Lab under Dr. Elena Kokkoni's provision. Still fascinated with questions about improvement of health in the context of engineering, she is currently pursuing a career in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
