Chen is an award-winning PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr. Angela Colantonio at the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI), University of Toronto. He has previously completed his Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences and Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) degrees from the University of Toronto and McMaster University respectively. With a strong interest in technology and caregiving, Chen is currently working on a collaborative project between the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Health Canada with the aim to develop a sex- and gender-based technology evaluation tool for caregiving technologies. Chen has received several scholarships including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, Peterborough K.M. Hunter Charitable Foundation Graduate Award and CIHR Doctoral Research Award.
