Prof Ang is an Associate Professor with the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and he also holds concurrent appointment as the Executive Director of the Rehabilitation Research Institute of Singapore, a S$87.8M joint research collaboration by Nanyang Technological University Singapore, Agency for Science, Technology And Research (A*STAR) and National Healthcare Group. He was the General Chair of IEEE International Conference on Rehabilitation Robotics (ICORR) 2015, Singapore. He is also the Founding President of the Coalition on Rehabilitation Engineering & Assistive TEchnology of Asia (CREATE Asia), an alliance of key assistive and rehabilitation technology professional organizations in 10 Asia Pacific Countries and Territories.
As a research leader, Prof Ang has an extremely strong research track record. He leads a multidisciplinary team from NTU focusing on robotic technology in biomedical applications and has been awarded > 20 M in national competitive research funding. He collaboration work is not within NTU, but spreading to other clinical & technical clusters including TTSH, SGH, NUHS and NUS, A*STAR. He is the PI of many projects funded by NRF, A*STAR SERC & BMRC, NMRC, MOE, MOH and NTU. He has published extensively, with more than 160 peer reviewed scientific articles and 7 book chapters. His work published in the high quality outlets in the fields of bioengineering is widely recognized by peers and highly cited (Total Citations = 1841; Hirsh-Index = 23) (refer table below for details). He is extremely passionate about the spin-off the technology from laboratory and scaling up to large industry cohort. He has several inventions licensed to the industry. He was also the awardee of NTUitive (NTU’s innovation and enterprise company) Gap Grant Innovation award for the year of 2015, 2017 and 2018. As an Academic, Prof Ang has successfully supervised the completion of >10 PhD students.
