Dr Chua Sui Geok Karen, is currently a senior consultant rehabilitation physician practicing at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Rehabilitation Centre, Singapore, Centre for Advanced Rehabilitation Therapeutics (CART TTSH) and a medical acupuncturist at the TTSH Complementary Integrative Medicine Centre. She is also a visiting rehabilitation consultant at St Luke’s Hospital since 2006 and Ng Teng Fong Hospital since 2015 as well as Adj Assoc Prof at LKC Medicine.
She obtained her fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA in 1997 in neurorehabilitation and brain injury rehabilitation and currently leads the brain injury rehabilitation team at TTSH Rehabilitation Centre.
Dr Chua currently holds research grants and collaborations with various academic institutions exploring integrative research into robotics for post-stroke arm rehabilitation, automated sensing treadmills, Brain Computer Interface devices and healthcare mobile apps. She has also published in journals for neurorehabilitation, neurotechnology, stroke and brain injury rehabilitation. Together with her team, they have also written 3 books on brain injury education for patients and caregivers.
She is also a member of the National Healthcare Group, Research Committee and MOH complaints committee; and past chair of the Chapter of Rehabilitation Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore and ex board member of the Asian Oceanian Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (AOSPRM), ex vice president of the Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, Singapore and ex Board of Governors, International Brain Injury Association (IBIA). In 2012, she was awarded the National Healthcare Group Outstanding Citizen award.
