Monika Gross, BFA, mAmSAT, mATI, RSME. Executive Director, The Poise Project, a nonprofit with the mission to help the public maintain poise and personal growth throughout all stages and challenges of life using the principles of Alexander technique (AT). The Poise Project is committed to removing barriers to Alexander technique training across socio-economic groups and to those with chronic conditions. We are the recipient of five Parkinson's Foundation community grants to deliver AT-based classes to people living with Parkinson's disease and their care partners at sites across NC, SC, and DC, and an Alzheimer's Foundation of America grant for an AT course to support care partners of people living with dementia. At ACRM 2018 in Dallas, at April 2019 ACRM 2019 Training Institute in Chicago, and ACRM 2019 in Chicago, The Poise Project delivered a half-day introductory course, and two research posters on AT-based rehabilitation interventions. Monika presented the ACRM 2019 symposium: "Care partners in neurodegenerative disorders: Interventions with the ‘invisible patient’". She is an active member of ACRM networking groups and task forces, including Neurodegenerative Diseases NG; Complimentary and Rehab Medicine NG, Athlete Development and Sports Rehab NG, Geriatric Rehab and Aging Research NG, Stroke ISIG Movement Interventions Task Force, Parkinsonisms and Related Movement Disorders Task Force, and Caregiver Task Force.
Monika is a certified Alexander technique instructor since 1985, a teaching member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT) and Alexander Technique International (ATI), and a Registered Somatic Movement Educator with the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA). She is a member of MDS (The International Movement Disorders Society). She has brought Poise Project teams to the 2016 and 2019 World Parkinson Congresses; and the 2018 and 2020 Pan American Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Specialists conferences in Miami.
