Kelly Spellman, MS, OTR/L has been a practicing occupational therapist for over a decade. She obtained her Bachelor's in Therapeutic Studies from Boston University in 2006, and went on to get her Master's degree in Occupational Therapy at Boston University as well. She has worked primarily as a therapist in inpatient rehabilitation, specializing in the care of people with spinal cord injuries. She worked for many years as an Advanced Clinician at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital's Spinal Cord Injury Unit, where she still treats on a per diem basis. She is an active volunteer for Empower SCI, a non-profit serving the SCI population, where she helps write funding grants and serves as a clinician in their community-based rehabilitation programs. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Science at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where her research is exploring a potential link between resilience and functional gains in early spinal cord injury recovery.
