Health Science Specialist/Assistant Professor
Atlanta VA/Emory University
I am currently a Research Health Scientist at the Atlanta VAMC in the Center for Visual and Neurocognitive Rehabilitation (CVNR) and an Assistant Professor in Neurology at Emory University. I also direct the Physical Exercise Core at the Atlanta VA where I have developed a team of exercise physiologists, MR physicists, neuropsychologist, speech-language pathologist and technicians to offer our Veterans the opportunity to participate in promising trials of novel rehabilitation. I have also been a member of the Neuroimaging Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Bruce Crosson for the last 8 years.
My research focuses on understanding and improving the declines in physical and cognitive functioning commonly demonstrated in older adults and individuals with neurological disease. The Specific Aims of my research are to 1) quantify relationship between physical and cognitive-executive functions in aging and 2) evaluate longitudinal changes in physical and cognitive-executive functions brought on by aging, neurological disease, and/or intervention, including physical exercise.
