Exciting News: The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) 8th edition is launching on June 1, 2021! The new edition introduces a new educational methodology tailored to better meet the needs of the many healthcare professionals who manage the newly born baby. NRP 8th edition includes the textbook, online exam, and 8th edition reference charts and resources. Implementation is mandated for January 1, 2022.
The NRP was developed by the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics to teach an evidence-based approach to newborn care. The NRP course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.
Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation. Each hospital is responsible for determining the level of competence and qualifications required for someone to assume clinical responsibility for neonatal resuscitation.
To date, over four million healthcare professionals have been trained or retrained using award-winning state-of-the-art interactive education in 130 countries. The NRP currently has approximately 21,000 active instructors and over 200,000 learners complete the NRP Provider Course every year.
