Mr. Niels Verburg, MD / Neurosurgical Resident and PhD candidate / Department of Neurosurgery, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
I started my Neurosurgical residency in 2012 under the guidance of prof.dr. W.P. Vandertop and prof.dr. S.M. Peerdeman and will be finished in January 2020. During my residency I have developed a special interest in Neurosurgical Oncology under the guidance of dr. P.C. de Witt Hamer. I started my PhD program titled "Advanced Imaging in Glioma Treatment" in 2015 after obtaining a Dutch Cancer Society Grant. In 2017 I have spend two months as a visiting scientist in the Verhaak's lab at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine under guidance of prof.dr. R. Verhaak. Recently I have been awarded a Niels Stensen Fellowship, which will be used for a Neurosurgical Oncology fellowship at Addenbrooke's, Cambridge (UK) and the University of Cambridge (UK) under guidance of dr. S.J. Price in 2020. I am particularly interested in imaging in neuro-oncology, awake surgery and 5-ALA.
