WVC 91st Annual Conference
The pet population is aging and geriatric patients are increasingly anesthetized as part of their routine care. In a shelter environment geriatric patients are also increasingly common. While older patients present with associated increased risk factors, with a few modifications and attentive care these patients can be anesthetized safely and with good outcomes. This session will review the physiology and pharmacology of the aging feline or geriatric patient from an anesthesia perspective and will discuss practical tips for safe anesthesia for geriatric patients in a community medicine or shelter setting.
