Serum lipases have been used for the diagnosis of pancreatitis in dogs for many years. However, there are many different assays that can be used to measure lipases in serum. There are a variety of enzymatic assays that can be used to measure serum lipase activity, but none of these assays specifically measure pancreatic lipase. Pancreatic lipase can also be measured by immunoassays, but not all of these assays have been analytically and/or clinically validated.
