WVC 91st Annual Conference
Management of equids with PPID includes husbandry, adequate preventive care, nutrition, and medication. The dopaminergic drug pergolide has clearly been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for PPID but when should treatment begin and do all horses with PPID need to be treated? This talk will provide an overview of treatment of the syndrome, including a summary of the open field trial results that culminated in FDA approval of PrascendTM for treatment of PPID. It will also discuss a 10 year follow-up study of 30 equids with PPID.
