(HO32) Canine Extraction Lab & Regional Nerve Blocks

This lab, led by Diplomates of the AVDC, will teach the practitioner how to perform the proper flaps, removal of buccal bone to facilitate extraction, proper tooth sectioning, tooth removal, and proper tension-free closure for complicated extractions. The following teeth will be addressed: Maxillary canine tooth, maxillary 4th premolar tooth, mandibular canine tooth, mandibular 1st molar tooth. The attendee will learn how to perform regional nerve blocks for any extraction in the canine. 4 CE Hours. Purchase required. Capacity: 30. Price: $475.

Transportation: Complimentary shuttle service is provided to and from the Oquendo Center for all hands-on labs. The pickup area is located at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center entrance. Buses depart promptly 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of the course.

Dress Code: Please dress comfortably. Scrubs are recommended, additional scrubs are available for use at the Oquendo Center, if needed. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Curt Coffman

Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists

Dr. Curt Coffman FAVD, DAVDC currently works with Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists. He received his B.S. in agriculture from Kansas State University in 1990 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1993. Dr. Coffman worked as an Associate and Partner in small animal veterinary practice until 2000 when he joined Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists to complete his training for board certification. He is a supporter of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry, a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD) and a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). Dr. Coffman has served as President of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry Board of Directors (2009-11), and severed on the Board of Directors of the American Veterinary Dental College from 2010-2017. Dr. Coffman is currently a Managing Partner with Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists, providing comprehensive dental and oral surgical care for companion animals. He also serves as an Adjunct, Assistant Clinical Professor at Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. He is the author of multiple publications and enjoys presenting continuing education lectures for veterinarians and technicians on the subject of veterinary dentistry. Barden Greenfield

MidSouth Veterinary Dental Referrals, PLC

Dr. Greenfield is a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and a fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD). He has dental referral practices in Memphis, TN and Little Rock, AR. He was previously on the Board of Directors of the AVDS (American Veterinary Dental Society) and the F4VD (Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry). He is currently the President of the AVDC (American Veterinary Dental College). Dr. Greenfield founded the MVVDEC (Mississippi Valley Veterinary Dental Educational Center) in Memphis, which provides practical veterinary dental education for practicing veterinarians. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious AVDC Peter Emily Service Award for his contributions and service to the AVDC.

When not at his office in either Memphis or Little Rock, he may be seen playing golf or spending time with his fabulous wife and three awesome children.

Christopher J. Snyder

Section Head, Dentistry and Oral Surgery

Christopher Snyder is a Diplomat of the American Veterinary Dental College and Clinical Associate Professor and Section Head of the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating veterinary school at The Ohio State University and completing an internship in western New York, he joined the residency training program in veterinary dentistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005. Following residency training, Dr. Snyder became boarded in the American Veterinary Dental College and became faculty at UW. He has authored journal articles, textbook chapters and has lectured nationally and internationally. He prides himself on the dental education he provides to students at the University of Wisconsin and the residents he has successfully mentored in the specialty. Dr. Snyder’s academic interests include: maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction, oral surgery, creating innovating techniques in veterinary dental education and improving techniques for regional anesthesia.
