Specialty Veterinary Technician Session: Review of the pathophysiology of the pain pathway, how technicians are their patient's advocate, discuss methods of providing pain relief, review common pharmacology agents and patient scoring techniques.

Courtney Waxman

Courtney Waxman, CVT, VTS(ECC) is an Arizona native who found her passion in emergency and critical care medicine after completing an internship during her technician schooling. She graduated in 2008 with her Associate in Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology/Animal Health and obtained her CVT in 2009. Courtney has spent the past 10 years working in emergency medicine, and currently practices at VetMed Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Phoenix.

In addition to working in critical care, Courtney is actively involved within the veterinary community. She is the Arizona State Representative for NAVTA, is the Technician’s Chair for Arizona’s state association, is on the Task Force for the Veterinary Nurse Initiative, serves on two sub-committees for RECOVER, is an adjunct faculty member at her alma mater technician program, and serves on the credentials committee for AVECCT.

In 2017, she became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care and was nominated for NAVTA's Vet Tech of the Year for 2018. Her special interests include mechanical ventilation, environmental hazards, one-on-one case management, CPR, critical care nursing, and technician training. Off duty, she enjoys world travel with her husband, reading, yoga, and spoiling her two dogs, Biggs and Ollie.
