Pododermatitis or “bumblefoot” is a complex, degenerative, and potentially infectious condition. It can typically be resolved with medical management and husbandry changes, but surgical intervention is occasionally required. In this lecture we will review the pathophysiology of pododermatitis and many intervention strategies used to control and resolve the condition.

Dr. Brenna Fitzgerald is a 2007 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has practiced at the Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, California since 2008, where she completed her ABVP residency in avian practice and achieved Diplomate status in 2012. Prior to joining the Medical Center for Birds, she worked as an associate veterinarian in a private, multi-doctor practice in Dallas, Texas, where she practiced small animal, avian, and exotic animal medicine.
