Let's face it -- many pet owners and their beloved pets have come to associate the veterinary hospital as a place where fear and pain are a part of every visit. There are a few easy steps you can take to build a practice that's pet friendlier. While many fear-free strategies involve hospital protocol, the physical design of your hospital can certainly contribute greatly. This presentation will share ways to make any hospital environment more pet-centered and fear free.

Daniel D. Chapel

Chapel Associates Architects, Inc.

Dan Chapel is the president of Chapel Associates Architects located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Chapel Associates is a nationally recognized firm specializing in animal facility design. Practical, award-winning designs are the hallmark of this 40-year-old firm. Chapel Associates has participated in the design over 825 veterinary hospitals, boarding kennels and animal shelters. Past projects include two Veterinary Economics Magazine "Hospitals of the Year" and many "Designs of Merit" winners.

Dan Chapel is a nationally recognized expert in the field of veterinary architecture. Dan has served as a featured speaker on topics of animal facility design at all major veterinary conferences including the American Animal Hospital Association, Central Veterinary Conference, North American Veterinary Conference, and Western Veterinary Conference. Additionally Dan has spoken at every Veterinary Economics "Hospital Design Conference" since 1981.

He has authored or contributed information relating to hospital design for many veterinary related books and publications. Mr. Chapel has served on the Editorial Board of Veterinary Economics Magazine (now called Vetted) from 1985 to 2016.

Dan has been a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects since 1976 and is licensed to practice architecture in many states. Additionally, he is nationally certified as a licensed architect by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Dan and his wife, Shelly, have one son, Tristan. The family resides in Little Rock. Dan is also a veteran, attaining the rank of Major. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve, with decorated active service in both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars.
