Specialty Veterinary Technician Session: Canine parvovirus infections cause severe gastroenteritis and lead to dehydration, shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and sepsis when left untreated. One simple to implement, therapy that makes a significant difference in survival chance is enteral feeding started within hours of admission, even when vomiting. Even when vomiting? Yes, even when vomiting. There are many reasons nutritional intervention serves a key role in the recovery of critical care patients. Let's discuss why this is the case.

Kenichiro Yagi

ICU Manager, Blood Bank Manager
Adobe Animal Hospital

Over the 17 years in practice, Ken has discovered and refined his role as a veterinary technician by promoting compassionate and progressive care for the patients and their family. He obtained his VTS certification in emergency and critical care as well as small animal internal medicine. He now practices at Adobe Animal Hospital as an ICU Manager and Blood Bank Manager. Ken’s role has progressed from directly caring for patients to providing an environment for others to do the same.

Ken works to encourage further recognition of the vital role of the veterinary nurses and technicians through work with organizations such as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, and serving as a board member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, the Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians, and the Veterinary Innovation Council. He pursues the goal by showing the value of the profession’s perspective in veterinary medicine.

Ken invites everyone to ask “Why?” to understand the “What” and “How” of our field, and to constantly pursue new limits as veterinary professionals and individuals.
