This session will provide examples of assays to consider when conventional microscopy cannot distinguish reactive from neoplastic conditions. Assays that will be discussed include immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, PARR for lymphoma and the androgen receptor clonality assay (ARCA).

Paul Avery, VMD, PhD, DACVP is a Clinical Pathologist at Colorado State University. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After three years of experience in small animal private practice, he completed a Clinical Pathology residency at Colorado State University obtaining ACVP board certification in 2002. Following his residency, Dr. Avery completed a PhD in Experimental Pathology studying the immune response to FIV infection. He is currently an Associate Professor at Colorado State University with a research interest in the application of molecular techniques to better categorize hematologic malignancies.
