Combining modern medical advancements with acupuncture gives veterinarians more options to treat the clinical signs of disease so the practitioner is able to preserve a longer quality of life in pets struggling with aging, chronic and life limiting illnesses. The science behind acupuncture choices and the author’s favorite points for pain management and symptom relief will be discussed.

Tami Shearer

Dr. Tamara Shearer is a 1986 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Other accomplishments include:
Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner from the University of Tennessee 2004
Certified in acupuncture from the Chi Institute in 2012.
Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner
Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian
Practice owner of the Western Carolina Animal Pain Clinic
2003 Veterinarian of the Year by Hartz Mountain Corporation
Ohio Animal Foundation’s Award for Community Service Award in 2004
2007 Recipient of the Engelheim Berhringer Award for Service Above Self
Hospice care efforts featured in the Washington Post and numerous other publications including the AVMA Journal.

Lecture experience includes the Western Veterinary Conference, Midwest Veterinary Conference, North American Veterinary Conference, International Animal Hospice and Palliative Care Annual Meeting, the First International Hospice and Palliative Care Symposium at UC Davis (2008) and the AVMA Annual Meeting (Atlanta).
Contributing author to Dr. Gaynor’s, Handbook of Veterinary Pain Management on hospice care in 2009.
Guest editor and author, Veterinary Clinics of North America on hospice and palliative care.
Co-author for the text book, Hospice and Palliative Care for Companion Animals: Principles and Practice

Task Force member for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care Certification process and board specialty process thru the AVMA.
2009-2010 President of American Association of Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians

Member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management and AATCVM
