This lecture will describe specific horse shoes and shoeing strategies to enhance performance in both Western and English disciplines. Before making a shoeing recommendation or speaking with a client's farrier, the horse's signalment, level of competition, future performance schedule, quality of hoof wall, hoof conformation and quality of farrier must be known.

Robin Dabareiner

Associate veterinarian
Texas A&M University

Dr. Dabareiner is an equine surgeon and lameness expert. She was Head of the Equine Lameness Service at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences for the past 20 years. She has published over 200 manuscripts and book chapters on various equine musculoskeltal problems. She is now an associate veterinarian at Waller Equine Hospital in Waller, Texas. She earned her DVM degree in 1988 from the University of Minnesota and attained Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1998. Her scholarly interests include the poor performing horse, equine lameness, back and cervical pain, degenerative joint disease, navicular diseases, corrective shoeing, and western performance events.
