S2141 Building Community in an Era of Fear: Promoting Health and Inclusion for Racial Minority Children and Their Providers

Sunday, November 4
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Location: W304CD, Orange County Convention Center

Topic(s): Community Pediatrics

This session will help pediatricians understand the physical and mental health effects of the heightened and persistent stress experienced in many minority and immigrant communities due to racially charged rhetoric, more restrictive immigration policy, and law enforcement tactics that induce fear. Faculty will discuss how pediatricians can create safe and inclusive clinical spaces for minority patients, staff, and colleagues through cultural humility, understanding of implicit bias, and service delivery methods adapted to the needs of children and youths affected by cultural difference and/or trauma.
