Attendees will become familiar with common causes of procedural pain in the outpatient setting and methods to mitigate this pain. Techniques to be discussed include the psychological (breathing exercises, distraction, and coaching), physical (positioning, skin cooling, vaccine order, and injection technique), and pharmacologic (ingested sucrose, topical analgesics). Incorporating simple, effective, economical strategies to alleviate pain during procedures in the pediatric office will be emphasized.
