Using case examples, this session will cover changes in brain structure and function following stress, and patterns that may be clues to the child at greatest risk. Faculty will review potential mental and physical health problems correlated with early childhood adverse experiences. Effective interventions to help children and families before abuse happens will be explored. Management after a traumatic event, including the role of psychotropic medications and how to promote resilience, also will be presented.
