This session will provide an overview of how to optimize children with medical complexity for surgery and resources for these children in preoperative inpatient and outpatient settings. Faculty will review the preoperative interview, strategies to identify risk factors for perioperative complications, and indicators for when a surgical procedure should be cancelled or postponed. Case scenarios will be used to improve attendees’ understanding of preoperative management and facilitate communication among surgeons, anesthesiologists, subspecialists, pediatricians, and families.
