4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
Location: W304GH, Orange County Convention Center
Topic(s): Sports Medicine
When energy expenditure from physical activity is not matched by adequate dietary energy intake in female adolescents, the skeleton can suffer, with altered menstrual cycles and poor development of bone mineral density (BMD). This session will explore the latest theories on the pathophysiology of the female athlete triad and its male counterpart, the “athletic energy deficit.” Recent international guidelines on appropriate measurement of BMD via dual emission X-ray absorptiometry scanning and other methodologies will be presented.
