It’s NOT All About Acid: Analyzing the Role of GERD in Aerodigestive Disorders

This case-based session will provide an overview of diagnosis and management of Aerodigestive disorders, with a focus on the role of GERD in respiratory and other extraesophageal diseases. Objectives include: 1) understand the spectrum of Aerodigestive disorders; 2) review pathophysiology and mechanisms for best diagnosing acid and non-acid gastroesophageal reflux; and 3) analyze the role of acid-related GERD vs. other conditions in pulmonary aspiration syndromes in children. This H-Program hosted by the Section on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition will complement an independent H-program hosted by the Section on Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery on Monday afternoon (1-5 pm), which will address additional Aerodigestive disorder issues related to the airway.
