F1104 Adolescent GERD: Recognition and Management (Repeats as F2010)
Saturday, November 3
3:00 PM - 3:45 PM
Location: W311GH, Orange County Convention Center
This session will examine adolescent risk factors, including preferred diets (fried foods, chocolate, chewing gum), that may predispose to transient relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, self-medication with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and obesity. Faculty will review management strategies for otherwise healthy adolescents who complain of heartburn or other symptoms consistent with gastroesophageal reflux disease (eg, wet burps, dysphagia), including counseling on lifestyle changes and empiric treatment with acid-suppressing medications.
