Anthropological Response to Health Emergencies SIG invites you to this technical skills workshop. Many international health organizations are discovering the benefits of having anthropologists on their emergency response teams. As a result, there is a need to train anthropologists to be better prepared to support response teams in these emergent humanitarian contexts. To engage in humanitarian crises work, anthropologists need concrete skills and knowledge of current issues to be vital members of response teams. This four-hour workshop will introduce participants to the role anthropologists fulfil in a team and agency, methods and data sources, and core concepts in humanitarian actions. Through brief lectures, discussion, activities, case studies, and “voices from the field,” participants will develop a diverse portfolio of tools which can be used to rapidly collect data that can help to solve humanitarian crises, understand how to communicate to agencies and affected individuals, elements of risk, development, social mobilization, and community engagement.
