This session will review the ethical considerations attached to the regulation of developing the “Three Parent Embryo” technique to treat serious mitochondrial disorders. The Food and Drug Administration’s rulings and Institute of Medicine report on Ethical and Social Policy Considerations of Novel Techniques for Prevention of Maternal Transmission of Mitochondrial DNA Diseases will be discussed, if available.
