This session is designed to familiarize general pediatricians with important surgical diagnoses, common presentations, and initial diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers to facilitate prompt referral for definitive care. Problems such as pyloric stenosis, intussusception, appendicitis, and midgut volvulus will be discussed. Participants will leave with an improved understanding of the pathophysiology of these diseases and what the primary care physician can do to facilitate timely care. Case presentations with audience response will allow for a lively discussion.
