The educational system often is a mystery to parents and pediatricians. Schools operate under a system of rules and regulations that are not medically based and do not fit well into the pediatrician’s view of the child and the child’s family. Nonetheless, pediatricians often are asked for assistance by parents or school staff in identifying resources and understanding a child’s needs in the school setting. This session will help attendees understand school-based resources and the laws and regulations governing schools, and teach ways to collaborate more effectively with parents and schools on behalf of their patients.
