This didactic session will present biological and epidemiological evidence that breastfeeding is protective against sudden infant death syndrome. Bed-sharing will be discussed as a relative risk in infants of various ages. Faculty also will offer practical tips for pediatricians seeking to communicate AAP policies around breastfeeding, while reviewing the success of national safe sleep campaigns and other messages that support risk reduction.
