Congenital hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects. Infant hearing screening programs are recommended by the AAP and required in most states. Ongoing hearing screening also is recommended as a component of pediatric health maintenance. This session will cover screening requirements, objective tests available, and interventions frequently prescribed. Faculty will review the variety of diagnostic options and the role of the audiologist for hearing evaluation and management. Finally, faculty will discuss treatment options, including hearing aids, surgery, and speech and language therapy.
